Parents.
This might be geared to the younger kids, who don't really have a say in how much time they spend online or what they eat. I believe that if you get students excited about being active and eating right at a young age, then it will carry through into high school and into their later years. It's hard for a teacher to have that kind of influence over student's lives once they go home. But, that is where the parent comes in. As a teacher, you want to change a student's behavior, you have to talk to the parent. You have to get the parent involved, the parent can make the students go outside and be active, the parent can make the kids more healthy dinners and snacks. You want the students to live healthy at a young, you have to get the parents involved.

I can definitely see where you are coming from, I think that in order for there to be a change there must be constant and cooperative communication between teachers, parents, and students. If all the groups have an understanding of what the overall objective is then they are able to effectively work towards those goals.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you. When it comes to getting the students to be healthy and active, it's placed on us as educators but also on the parents. We can try to reinforce healthy habits all we want, but if the parents at home aren't reinforcing it then how do we expect the students to change? Growing up, my parents always had me in some type of sport, whether it be ice skating, softball, or basketball. They also fed me the right foods, and made sure I didn't eat junk all the time. They taught me good habits, and really implanted them within me. It's hard for those who's parents don't do this. It's unfortunate, but it's the truth.
